This week we welcome forensics experts from more than twenty countries. Over the next few days, they will take part in an international training: International Bomb Scene Management Training (IBSMT), organized by the Netherlands Police’s Central Forensic Investigation Team on the exercise grounds of the Netherlands Police Academy’s Ossendrecht campus. During this training, the participating forensic experts from all over the world will share their knowledge of and experience with explosives investigations.

The participants investigate various crime scenes together, which helps them strengthen their expertise in investigating and analysing explosive attacks. These crime scenes have been constructed at the exercise grounds in Ossendrecht using various explosives. This will make the training as realistic as possible to allow the experts to practise their skills.

Close collaboration

The IBSMT is facilitated in part by close collaboration between various parties. These include the Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (Explosieven Opruimingsdienst Defensie, EOD) and the Netherlands Forensic Institute (Nederlands Forensisch Instituut, NFI), as well as the German Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt, BKA) and the Belgian Service for the Clearance and Destruction of Explosives (Dienst voor Opruiming en Vernietiging van Ontploffingstuigen, DOVO). The Netherlands Police Academy also plays an important role in organizing the training, along with other police disciplines. A positive addition this year is the close collaboration with several partners of the Netherlands Police Academy: the Midden- en West-Brabant Fire Brigade and first-aid provider Witte Kruis Evenementenzorg. Together we ensure a realistic, multidisciplinary approach towards incident management, focusing on safety and expertise.

Exchanging experiences

This training provides important opportunities for all parties to learn, but also to exchange experiences and strengthen mutual collaboration.
